The reflection of the setting sun over the South Pacific Ocean challenged me to create a new painting technique/technology. I began with multiple coats of Golden’s Tar Gel Medium overlaid on to Nova’s Supergel. Both are transparent and I could preserve luminosity by using transparent colors as well. When I moved to a much smaller format, the effect lost some of its drama. That is when I decided on epoxy coatings and after a great deal of trial and error, arrived at my current practice of creating the final coating with a two part Haptene plastic.
